ElectroRecycle’s 2019 Summer Ambassador Tour has officially begun!
Each year, ElectroRecycle sends a team of summer ambassadors around the province with the intention of raising awareness about the importance of recycling small appliances and power tools. We are excited to introduce Leah and Audrey as our 2019 Summer Ambassadors! They will be touring the province until the end of August to collect your broken or unwanted small appliances and power tools.
Audrey is currently studying Communications at Simon Fraser University. Her love for animals and her motivation to reduce her waste led her to this awesome position. Outside of work, she loves to create short films and travel the world. Her most recent trip was China!
Leah is originally from Vancouver Island and is currently studying Geography at the University of Victoria. She has always been an environmentalist at heart and has a passion for nature and the great outdoors. In her spare time, she loves to express herself creatively through artistic projects, particularly painting.
Audrey and Leah are so excited to step into their role as the 2019 Summer Ambassadors and share their recycling adventures with you. In fact, they have recently returned from their first trip. Read all about it below!
Our First Trip
We left our bustling city home base to travel to the city of Kamloops, located in the south-central interior of BC where the North and South Thompson rivers meet. We packed the ElectroRecycle van with our photo booth and our trivia wheel and made our way to the annual Green Living Expo.
Kamloops Green Living Expo
We were so excited to hear that many residents of Kamloops already knew about the ElectroRecycle program and the benefits of recycling small appliances and power tools. Everyone was happy to see us and we had some great conversations about sustainable steps they are taking to make a difference in their community.
Vernon Farmers Market
Following the Green Living Expo, we packed up the ElectroRecycle van and continued on to Vernon. The city of Vernon treated us so well! We began our morning with two depot visits located between Kamloops and Vernon followed by two more depot visits in the heart of Vernon. The depots greeted us with a warm welcome and provided us with the opportunity to tour their facilities. It was wonderful to see first hand how our small appliances and power tools are sorted and handled.
In addition to the depot visits, we had the pleasure of taking part in the Vernon Farmers Market. The friendly residents of Vernon came by our booth to spin the trivia wheel and grab a pair of ElectroRecycle sunglasses as they braved the 30-degree heat. We proved to be quite a hit as people came by to say hi and drop off their small appliances and power tools with a smile. The hotter it got the more we noticed people rocking our bright green shades!
Discussions with the Columbia Shuswap Regional District
On our way home from Vernon, we were given an opportunity to meet with a government official from the Columbia Shuswap Regional District to discuss community outreach initiatives. We chatted about new event ideas and the possibility of hosting collection events in the future. If your community is interested in participating at or hosting a collection event with ElectroRecycle please let us know! You can reach out to us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The trip was such a success! It provided us with the opportunity to chat about recycling with some of BC’s interior communities and ensured that broken small appliances and power tools were kept out of landfills. We are excited to make our way to Squamish over the Victoria Day long weekend. If you are in the area please swing by and say hi on May 18th!
