COVID-19: Temporary Event Suspension

Back to Blog

The COVID-19 pandemic as of March 19, 2020

Please note that Electrorecycle is temporarily suspending event attendance at all collection events due to the unprecedented circumstances surrounding COVID-19. As you may be aware, the Provincial Health Officer has announced a public health emergency due to the pandemic. All public gatherings of more than 50 people have been directed to either be cancelled or postponed.

Measures taken by ElectroRecycle

Electrorecycle has made the difficult decision to cancel our attendance at all planned events in March and April. This decision was made to minimize potential health risks to staff, the public, and our communities. We did not take this decision lightly, but as many of our event partners have made a similar choice to cancel or postpone their events, we felt it was the right one to make. The event suspensions include Repair Cafes, Municipal Recycling drop-off events in Vancouver, as well as the Vancouver Farmers Market.

We continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation very closely. If the COVID-19 pandemic is resolved faster than anticipated we will re-evaluate what our event attendance may look like.

Recycling Depots and Retailers – hours of operation

Given the current situation, we encourage you to postpone your small electrical appliance and power tool recycling for when the pandemic has passed. Social distancing is strongly encouraged, as is staying home.  If you must visit a recycling depot, please contact them directly to confirm their operating hours and any precautions they may be asking customers to take at this time. You can find contact information through our online depot locator tool. Simply enter your postal code and the locator will indicate your nearest collection site’s location and phone number.

Please do not visit a recycling depot if you are feeling unwell, have recently traveled, or have been in contact with someone who may have the virus. It is imperative we all do our part to help flatten the curve and abide by these precautions.

Please note that other retailers that ElectroRecycle works with, including Best Buy and Staples, have suspended acceptance of recycling material at this time.
The Salvation Army Thrift Store is also temporarily unable to accept donations.

We’d love to work with you as soon as it is safe to do so!

Due to the uncertainty of the duration of this situation, we do not know how long our suspending of event attendance will be for.  We will be sure to share rescheduled event dates as soon as they are available. Please check our events page and social media platforms for the latest updates.
