The Ambassadors Head to the Okanagan

Last weekend, myself and fellow ElectroRecycle ambassador, Curtis, headed up to Kelowna and Vernon for our first out of town trip this summer!  During our time in the Okanagan, we were able to visit some pretty neat events including the Rutland May Days Fair and Vernon Farmers Market, as well as talk to some recycling experts at the various depots in the area.

Rutland May Days Fair

Rutland May Days

The weather could not have been better as we set up the ElectroRecycle tent for the day at the Rutland May Days Fair. Crowds of people shuffled in, and screams could be heard from the roller coaster at the carnival nearby. The smell of kettle corn and cotton candy tempted us as we stood out in the park, eager to talk to talk to festival goers about all things recycling.

Along with the other festival activities going on, lots of people tried their hand at our depot ring toss game and brushed up on their British Columbia geography. Groups of people, including many families and teenagers, were excited to dress up and pose for our photo booth. By mid-afternoon, the sun was shining brightly and more and more people were interested in coming up to us and talking about our small appliance recycling program.

By the end of the day, and after having eaten many mini donuts, we were full and ready to head to our next destination: Vernon!

Alpacas!!

Vernon Farmers Market

The first thing the we noticed upon setting up tent at the Vernon farmers market, aside from the smell of fresh bread, were the alpacas! Market vendors had unique products to sell (alpaca socks), and market goers were out enjoying the sun and admiring the many interesting displays. In the center of the market stood our bright green ElectroRecycle tent, drawing in the people of Vernon to talk to us about recycling their small appliances.

People of all ages were in attendance, and many shared with us their own experiences of recycling too. We were thrilled by the awareness that many people had regarding our program, and their knowledge of where they could recycle our products in Vernon. By the end of the day, we were struggling to keep up with the demand for ElectroRecycle green sunglasses, from market goers to other vendors alike.
