Our mountain adventure

Back to Blog

As ElectroRecycle summer ambassadors, we are gearing up for a new adventure on the road to reach new communities, raise awareness about the importance of recycling small appliances and power tools, and of course, to collect end-of-life products responsibly.

During the Victoria Day long weekend, we journeyed along the twisty Sea-to-Sky Highway to attend the Squamish and Whistler Farmers Markets. Though this trip was closer to home, we managed to feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city and experience a different side of the natural beauty that British Columbia has to offer.

Squamish Farmers Market

On Saturday morning, we left the city limits to make our way to the Squamish Farmers Market, nestled below the Stawamus Chief Mountain. The market-goers welcomed us into their community, with locals jumping at the opportunity to drop off their broken small appliances and power tools. They shared with us their passion to preserve the environment through their community cleanups and their path to zero waste by practicing the 6 Rs. We collected a variety of ElectroRecycle products, including the vacuum pictured below!

Whistler Farmers Market

We set our sights on the Whistler Farmers Market on Sunday morning. The drive over was full of picturesque snow-covered mountains that, regardless of the heat, were teeming with skiers and snowboarders alike. With the market set in the heart of the Upper Village, we were graced with the stunning view of Blackcomb Mountain. As it was opening day for the market, the crowd was packed with families enjoying the end of the ski season, as well as vendors selling their artisan crafts and cuisine.

Our bright green ElectroRecycle tent and trivia wheel drew the attention of all who passed by. We gathered large crowds who shared their recycling knowledge with us, while we spread the word about the program and handed out swag. The trivia wheel gave us a great understanding of how much the kids already knew about recycling, which we will take into account as we prepare for our upcoming school presentation at Victoria West Elementary next Friday, May 24th.

Visiting Regional Recycling Whistler

After the Farmers Market, we had the opportunity to meet with Regional Recycling Whistler’s manager, and drop off all of the small appliances and power tools that we had collected throughout the weekend. We came up with some new ideas for future collection events in the Whistler community to continue to increase awareness and participation with the ElectroRecycle program, and preserve Whistler’s natural beauty for years to come.

Our time in Squamish and Whistler not only reminded us of how beautiful the province is, but also showed us how passionate individuals are about the environment. If your community is interested in participating at or hosting a collection event with ElectroRecycle please let us know! You can reach out to us via email at info@cesarecycling.ca.
