Program Product Update

CESA continuously reviews new and existing products to either confirm and exclude their capture under the ElectroRecycle program, and ensure a consistent decision-making process is followed.

Product Power Source Clarification

Products that fall under a CESA product category that uses a USB power source to function are included in the ElectroRecycle program.

Product Exclusion Reminders
CESA Product Guide Available Online

A current list of included and excluded products is always available in the CESA Product Guide. A Summary of Program Product Changes is also available. Members are reminded that they must report and remit fees on new products starting 90 days from receipt of notice about the inclusion of the product in the program.

If your company has questions about whether a product is included or not included in the program, please email memberservices@cesarecycling.ca with a product description, weblink and/or photo, and we will provide clarification. Depending on the nature of the product, a decision may need to be reviewed by CESA’s Producer Relations Committee, which meets on a quarterly basis, resulting in a potential delay. We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure all products are thoroughly reviewed.

Exciting News In The Regulatory World: Ontario And CESA Need Your Help

Ontario continues to advance its electronics recycling regulations to include small appliances and power tools. CESA has polled its members, and we heard you loud and clear. You want CESA as an option in the competitive Ontario landscape, so long as we can help you meet your regulatory obligations in a cost-effective manner.

But expansion – how to do it, when and where, and the funding mechanisms behind it, are new territory. We want to be upfront and transparent with you. To make sure we are making decisions that will address the needs of the members, we are starting a task group to help plan this exciting new chapter. Any member, large or small, is welcome to participate. We hope to gather about 10 members that have operations in Ontario, and hope to balance the working group with representation from both retailers and manufacturers. Please reach out to Laura if you are interested in participating. We think it will be approximately 2-3 hours per month, with meetings held via teleconference (at least for now). Contact lselanders@cesarecycling.ca or 647-529-6925.

We are excited to build a program that will exceed your expectations – stay tuned for more details in the coming months!

ElectroRecycle.ca – A New Look And Feel!

CESA and the ElectroRecycle program underwent a brand fresh in 2019. This came after more than eight years of operating under our original brand. We felt that it was the right time to update the brand and develop new assets to capture the maturity of the CESA program to better fit our audience.

The brand refresh coincided with the launch of a refreshed website in November 2019. The refreshed website reflects the new brand identities of both CESA and ElectroRecycle, and allowed us to enhance important aspects of the site such as the collection site locator tool and the accepted products list, improving user experience for both members and consumers.

Check it out at www.electrorecycle.ca!

Stewardship Collaboration: OPEIC & CESA

We are excited to announce that CESA’s ElectroRecycle program is moving ahead with our collaboration with the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute of Canada (OPEIC). Pending approval of the OPEIC stewardship plan by the Ministry of Environment, we will begin collecting outdoor power equipment through our existing collection network. Stayed tuned for more exciting news as we unroll this collaboration throughout the year!

Member Compliance Reviews

Our 2019 reviews found that the majority of members are in compliance. Member compliance reviews are conducted annually and provide members with an opportunity to sit down one-on-one with a representative of CESA to review a variety of topics including environmental handling fees, accepted products and product categories, as well as reporting and remitting procedures.

Members are reminded to ensure that the correct Environmental Handling Fees (EHFs) are attached to applicable CESA products and that payments (whether monthly, quarterly or annually) are submitted on time. The type and frequency of errors identified through the 2019 compliance reviews are summarized below.
